The phytosanitary monitoring of crops is one of the main components in the system of integrated pest management. Monitoring is used for the prognosis of emergence time and the number of phytophages (pests), the definition of optimum periods for the application of plant defensive means, the invasions of entomophages, the determination of phytophage species composition and the estimation of the effectiveness of defensive actions, which are conducted. Besides, the systematical conducting of monitoring allows pest species to be revealed on the early stages of development. It enables to elaborate the plan (strategy) of pest elimination or minimize the negative influence of species on defended crops that decreases economical expenses for the conducting of defensive actions. The main tools for monitoring fulfillment are traps and the visual survey of crops. The traps used for monitoring can be conditionally subdivided in dependence on the mechanism of action into the adhesive (colour) and the pheromone traps.
